Advice – Academic Partners

1. Engage in early dialogue

Contact your Technology Transfer Office (TTO) as soon as you believe your research may have commercial potential.

Early discussions help identify the best protection and collaboration strategies before results are shared or published.

2. Disclose before publishing

Always inform your TTO about any potentially patentable findings before presenting them publicly or submitting a manuscript.

This ensures your results can be protected without delaying publication unnecessarily.

3. Plan ahead for cross-border collaborations

When working with colleagues across the DK–SE border, early contact with all involved TTOs is especially important.

Differences in IP ownership rules make it essential to establish a well-structured collaboration agreement at the start of the project to define ownership, rights, and responsibilities clearly.

4. For Swedish researchers

Expect to sign agreements with Danish institutions (e.g. universities) if the project involves Danish partners or if the university will take the lead on patent filing or commercialization.
