ReproTalk features internationally renowned standard for protecting future female fertility

On 8 September 2025, the third ReproTalk event tuned in on how researchers and clinicians in Denmark are helping to set the global standard for fertility preservation ahead of treatments that may harm the reproductive potential for both girls and women.

With world-leading expertise, the teams at the Laboratory of Reproductive Biology and the Fertility Department at Rigshospitalet have developed a comprehensive, centralised procedure to preserve ovarian tissue, which has made Denmark a reference point internationally.

Adding to this is a cross-border patient mobility agreement, which was previously established through ReproUnion to enable women from Region Skåne in Sweden to have ovarian tissue preserved at Rigshospitalet. The agreement contributed to strengthening access to fertility preservation in the Øresund region.

The ReproTalk event featured Kirsten Tryde Macklon, who talked about fertility preservation options and clinical practice and Stine Gry Kristensen who shared insights from over 1,500 stored ovarian tissue samples, ongoing follow-up studies, and the importance of early intervention before the age of 35.

ReproUnion also proudly supports early-career researchers in this field, including postdoc Cristina Subiran Adrados, who gave a flash talk on her work exploring follicle atresia, with unique samples and recent data analysed in collaboration with Johan Malm, Gyorgy. Marko-Varga and others at Lund University.

Also giving a flash-talk was Mathilde Yde, PhD student, investigating how chemotherapy affects ovarian reserve and future pregnancy potential in young women with breast cancer.

ReproUnion and Medicon Valley Alliance are facilitating these events with the ReproYoung group, who once again made ReproTalk such an insightful and collaborative experience.
